Meditation Hall Rules

The meditation hall is the soul of the ashram. It is a place of quietude available at all times to all the devotees and seekers staying in the ashram for the practice of prayer, japa and meditation. Following are some of the rules devised to ensure that the sanctity of the meditation hall is maintained and its atmosphere remains conducive for contemplation:

  1. It is a must for all staying in the ashram to attend all the four daily meditation sessions unless one is sick or has to do ashram seva. The daily schedule of group meditation is as follows. Please inform the manager if for some reason you are unable to attend one of the sessions.
    • 4:30 a.m. — 5:30 a.m.      Meditation          3:30 p.m. — 4:30 p.m.     Meditation
    • 9:00 a.m. — 10:00 a.m.   Meditation           6:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m.     Sankirtan & Meditation
  2. Please sit quietly, straight and in a stable posture as far as possible so that sleep does not overpower you and others are not disturbed.
  3. There are many ways to remember God, or to practice meditation. Here seekers are free to repeat any name of God in which they have faith, or to practice the japa of the mantra received from their Guru, or to practice any technique of meditation suitable to them. But the japa or practice should be done mentally and not loudly or in such a way that others are disturbed.
  4. Please do not come late or leave during the regular group meditation sessions.
  5. Please don’t talk with others in the hall.
  6. Please do not bring small children with you to the meditation sessions as they cannot sit quietly for the whole session of meditation and it disturbs other seekers.
  7. It is forbidden to practice yogasanas, read, write, lie down, or do any other activity in the meditation hall at any time.
  8. It is forbidden to do pranayama or other forms of breathing exercises in such a way that it makes noise and disturbs other sadhakas.
  9. No mobile phones in the hall please!
  10. Use of perfumes or other fragrances is prohibited in the meditation hall.
